Presents:
The Life of George Piercy
A presentation on the life of George Piercy 1829-1913 a farmer’s son from Yorkshire.
He sailed to China in 1851. He was inspired with the idea of founding a mission in
that vast country. This he achieved, despite fierce opposition and the loss of his wife
Jane and a daughter. He overcame many years of tribulation and turmoil to become a
very much respected figure in China, which continues even today.

After 30 years he returned home and established a further mission to help Chinese sailors in the docklands of the East End of London. His affection for China was boundless to the
end of his days where he now lies in Pickering where he was born.
